Free Keyword Suggestion Tool

Why a keyword suggestion tool? Because selecting the best keywords to optimize for, is at the heart of Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing.

The first step is to put yourself in the customers' shoes, and think of the terms they would use to look for a product or service when using a search engine. Ask a few friends, relatives, work colleagues. If you can, ask someone familiar with the business. Ask,

"What words or terms would you use if you were searching for this product via a Google search?"

Below we provide a free keyword suggestion tool- just type in your search term, and we'll suggest the best keywords to use.

The next step is to put that list together, and start doing some searches for those words and expressions. Look at the top results from a search- not the paid listings. Pick out the sites that are obvioulsly players in the field. Look through those pages, and note the keywords they have targeted in their headings, links and body copy. Then, use View: Source (or the equivalent) on your web browser, to have a look for the keywords they are using in their Title and Description metatags, and the names and alt text of their graphics.

From this research, you'll have a good list of keywords/phrases that are targeted by the sites most successful at achieving high rankings.

Look through your list, and cross off those that really don't apply to your situation. Now, you've got a good list to work with. Unfortunately, apart from using common sense and experience, you don't have any way of knowing which terms are the most popular. We can help, with a number of free keyword suggestion tools. Use these tools, and they can take the term you input, show you how many times it gets searched for in that service, with a list of associated terms together with how many times they are searched for. Sounds heavy, but it's easy once you try it once or twice.

The first keyword suggestion tool is right here! Provided by our friends at Digitalpoint, it combines results from the Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool, and WordTracker. Just type in your search term, and hit Enter.
